Most visitors from Europe, North America, Australia and many Asian countries can enter Japan visa‑free for stays of up to 90 days. Ensure your passport is valid for the entire duration of your trip. Those requiring a visa should consult their nearest Japanese embassy. If you’re travelling to remote islands, remember to carry your passport for domestic flights.

Upon arrival, complete a disembarkation card and customs declaration. Follow instructions from immigration officers, and declare any items subject to duty or quarantine.
