Yaeyama Islands

The remote Yaeyama chain includes Ishigaki, Iriomote, Taketomi and Yonaguni. These islands offer wild jungles, mangrove rivers and some of Japan’s most spectacular beaches. Ishigaki serves as the transport hub with direct flights from mainland Japan. From there, ferries connect to Iriomote’s untamed interior and Taketomi’s preserved Ryukyu village.

Highlights include canoeing the Urauchi River, hiking to Pinaisara Falls, cycling through Taketomi’s coral‑sanded streets and diving with hammerhead sharks off Yonaguni. These islands suit adventurous travellers seeking nature and cultural immersion.
