Manzamo (Cape Manza)
On the west coast of the main island near Onna Village, Manzamo is one of Okinawa’s most iconic scenic spots. Its name derives from a Ryukyuan phrase meaning “a field where 10,000 people can sit,” a nod to the grassy plateau high above the East China Sea【120547469488254†L50-L60】. Waves have carved the 20‑metre‑high Ryukyu limestone into a shape reminiscent of an elephant’s trunk【120547469488254†L50-L60】. The cliff offers panoramic views of the turquoise sea and is a popular place to watch the sunset. The plateau also shelters rare plants, making it a designated natural monument【120547469488254†L62-L64】.
A revitalization facility opened nearby in 2020 with shops, restaurants and a viewing deck. Walking paths lead to different viewpoints; be cautious of high winds and stay within safety barriers. Manzamo can be reached by bus from Naha or by car via the Okinawa Expressway.
